On Your Mark, Get Set, GO!

Sport inspired trends have been around since S/S '12 (influenced by the Olympic events), through the form of wedge sneakers, anoraks with drawstring details, perforated leather and mesh as well as tapered sweat pants - so bomb. With the spring-summer season approaching, sports has no sign of slowing down it's presence in the fashion world (especially with the Russian Sochi Olympics coming up in 2014). This time around it's taking shape through wedge sneakers, varsity jackets and drawstring trousers with racing stripes.

Here is a round up of my favorite athletic looks from the Spring/Summer runways!

As well as my sports inspired picks to help rev up your wardrobe!

Alexander Wang Zip Front Dress, Topshop Knitted Textured Crop Jumper, Markus Lupfer Tuxedo Track Trousers, Opening Ceremony Sling Back Platform Sneakers, 10 Crosby Derek Lam Varsity Jacket with Leather Sleeves
Here are my three commandments when it comes to adapting the sports trend:

1. Dressing head to toe sports can be overwhelming and make you look as if you're going to the gym. Try integrating more feminine and fitted looks along with accent sport pieces.
    • For example, try pairing a spring floral dress with a pair of a pair of low top pastel sneakers or pair a pair of cap toe kitten heeled sling backs with racer striped silk trousers and a mixed texture varsity jacket.
2. Find pieces that mix more luxurious fabrications (such as leather and silk) with sporty designs OR find pieces that mix sophisticated tailoring with sporty elements (such as perforated fabrics, mesh and zippers).
    • Derek Lam's leather sleeved varsity jacket (shown above) is a great example of that. This will not only increase the piece's mix and matching options but also has more potential to act as a staple closet piece.
3. Subtlety is key when it comes integrating the sporting trend into your daily wardrobe. Mixing sport elements - as mentioned above - will work well,  as well as integrating pieces such as sports bras, thin strapped halters and cross back tanks. These pieces will allow for layering, maneuverability and will act flexibly for day or night time purposes.

This is my version of the sporting trend that I wore out this past weekend!

This Vintage Chanel Purse Integrates the Sporting Trend by Providing a Settle 'Golden Ball' Accent and Compliments my Theory 'Racing Stripe' Trousers
The jacket is from Zara, skull blouse from Urban Planet, scarf from Elegance, drawstring racing stripe silk pants from Theory, shoes from George and purse from Chanel

Have you already participated in the sporting trend or are you waiting for the new season? I'd love to hear all the ways you guys are merging this trend with your wardrobe.

Until next time,

Kelly
